六十年代，歐洲一直存在早婚的傾向。許多年輕人剛步入青春期就與異性約會。進入高中后關系則穩步發展，然后在大學畢業前就結婚。許多學生結婚是為了逃避無聊的家庭生活或逃避沒有朋友，生活孤獨的個人煩惱。不幸的是早婚很少有助于以上問題的解決，卻常常使這些問題變得更加嚴重。從根本上來講，他們對婚姻的期待充滿了幻想。因此這些期待無法實現，隨之而來的是幻想破滅后的凄慘。
There has been a clear trend toward early marriage in European since 60s. Many youth begin dating in the first stages of adolescence, “go steady” through high school, and many before their formal education has been completed. Many students are marrying as an escape from an unsatisfying home life or their own personal problems of isolation and loneliness. The sad fact is that early marriage seldom solves one’s problems; more often, it merely intensifies them. Their expectations of marriage are essentially illusive, therefore incapable of fulfillment and tragic disillusionment is often bound to follow.
